sunshine theme week | godzilla ii | 'zilla v. frankie's pizza

BIGGIE SMALLS. BIGGIE SMALLS. BIGG-

If you say "Godzilla" three times, the damned thing appears smack in the middle of your quiet little liberal-arts town!

The original winner of the "I Ate Tokyo" Super Lucky Buffet Charrenge showed up on Monday while I was chatting up the Godzilla Theme Week during a typical lunch break at Oberlin's Java Zone.

Considering Java Zone's veggie-heavy menu, it should come as no surprise that there was very little "scurrying" fare to be had. As such, the big G zeroed-in on the next best thing: a super-greasy pizza.

GODZILLA v. FRANKIE'S PIZZA (w/ ICED HAZELNUT COFFEE)

In this case, "Frankie's Pizza" is both a literal and figurative name, since the thin crust basil-pesto, fresh tomato, red onion, black olive, and mozzarella masterpiece shown here is actually called Frankie's Pizza" on the Java Zone menu, and it actually was my pizza!

Like I said: Java Zone offers all sorts of vegetarian dishes at relatively cheap (private liberal-arts college) student prices. The employees with the sexy accents are all from some Greek or European or Mediterranean or Middle Eastern country way out there near East Texas, so there's quite a bit of regional influence in the remaining two-thirds of the hummus, baba ganoush, moussaka, sumac spiced menu, as well.

I should also mention another excellent item on the menu: the free wi-fi that kept me sane while the local yokels were responsible for setting up my internet connection.

Sad to report, however, that as good as the pizza was - Godzilla had the temperament of a five year old, and was not an ideal dining companion. Rather than try his own food, he played with the pizza, set it on radioactive fire, then refused to eat it.

6 bucks I'll never get back ...

This year's Tokyo Auto Show is in full swing, and in between announcements for new fun sporty coupes and monstrously-styled supercars from Toyota, Autoblog is reporting that Nissan has tweaked its resident monster for a smoother ride and better low-end torque.

Welcome to R35.1.

ALL OVER AGAIN

The last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind, and it all started when a trio of Switzer cars finishing 1-2-3 at the Moscow Unlimited a few weeks back. Since then, our Tymmeh-tuned mecha-Godzillas posted record-breaking results (for an R35) in standing mile and dragstrip events in Miami, Moscow, and right up the road in Salem, Ohio.

During these hectic weeks, Tymmeh n' me have found ourselves stranded, lost, burned up, burned out, and beat down - but it was all in good fun, and I'll be bringing you all (both?) up to date on all the latest GTR happenings during this, the SECOND Godzilla theme-week from Sunshine Supercars!

Rejoice, dammit!

Consensus.

Some lessons you pick up early. Case in point: while fighting with my fellow Borras' over the relative merits of various pizza toppings (a fight which would inevitably and immediately be followed by a second fight - over who would be tasked with communicating whatever irritating and impossible concoction of variables we had finally "decided" on to Domino's), I learned that a consensus - ANY consensus - was not an easy thing to reach.

I struggled with this throughout my college life, spent mostly in philosophy and political science classes where debate after debate seemed to call specifically for some sort of general consensus on topics far more lofty than the usual Borras-level "salami v. pepperoni v. the Borras' who realize Domino's doesn't offer salami as a topping in the US" topic.

All the same, in my time on this Earth I have found that there are some truths - precious few, in fact - that are clearly universal, and upon which we can all agree.

Most prominent among these: Japan is crack.

Enjoy!

Tym and I have been talking GTR all week, and we've got two more P700 "Pumpzillas" in the pipeline, already. Add to this an admittedly obsessive/addictive personality, and you can guess this is going to turn out ...

... might as well go with it, no?

So, without further ado: it's Godzilla Theme Week here at Sunshine!

With that in mind, I hope you enjoy the picture above, a JDM watermelon that's marketed to kids as a Godzilla egg ... or something.
